Moppa Shiraz
Wine
Kalleske Moppa Shiraz draws from nine different blocks across the winery's organic Moppa vineyard in the Barossa Valley's north-west. The oldest was planted in 1961.
The low yielding vines grow in shallow, sandy loam soil over deep red clay. The fruit is harvested in numerous batches over several weeks.
All batches are wild fermented in open top fermenters, pumped over by hand twice a day. After 7-14 days on skins, the juice is traditionally pressed and aged in French, American and Hungarian oak.
After maturation, a portion of Petit Verdot and co-fermented Shiraz and Viognier is blended into the wine to give it a contemporary edge.
Dark magenta, Kalleske Moppa Shiraz is full bodied with juicy red and black fruits, a fine tannin spine and a background of subtle oak. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
